The 2 places you must visit in Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta is booming right now! Not only is it growing as a top trip destination, but people are moving there in droves. With so much to see and do in Atlanta, I'd like to offer my suggestion of the top 2 things you absolutely must make time to see while you're there.

Martin Luther King, Jr Center

Skip the local amusement parks and zoos and head over to Auburn Street where MLK Jr grew up and began his career as the champion for the non-violent civil rights movement in America.

The museum center is an incredibly moving visual timeline of his life, his work, and the general mood of America during his lifetime.

I was quite emotional by the time I got through it all (roughly 60-90 minutes if you read and watch everything like I did). There is no entrance fee, so you can come and go or simply take your time.

Also within the several-block National Historic Site is the home where MLK was born and raised, the church where he began giving sermons, his and his wife's crypt, and an eternal flame to symbolize a continued effort to realize his dream.

Admission is free but the experience is priceless.

The Center for Civil and Human Rights

Situated immediately adjacent to the insanely popular tourist trap the World of CocaCola, it could be easy to overlook The Center for Civil and Human Rights.

I can't say enough beautiful words about this museum and the impact it can have on someone's life.

Expect to spend at least 2 hours here reading and interacting, shaking your head in disbelief, teetering between angry and empowered, immersing yourself in an interactive maze of all the ways Americans have held each other down and held each other up. And thats just the civil rights area.

Once you make your way upstairs to the human rights areas vast education in world leaders, foreign policy, and sustainability awaits. What a beautiful exhibit that everyone should see.

Admission is $16, so be sure to allow plenty of time to wander around soaking it all in.
